Bishop William H. Murphy, Jr.
Country by country, William H.
Murphy, Jr. is making a mark throughout the world as a leader of intercessory
prayer.
The pastor of New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Pontiac diligently pursues the God-given mandate of “Reclaiming the Church, the House of Prayer”. In fact, this has been the corporate focus at New Mount Moriah for the past seven years. Through annual 40 day prayer vigils; citywide prayer meetings; weekly intercessory prayer sessions; local, regional, and national prayer workshops and conferences; he intensely strives toward the mark of this God-given assignment.
The magnitude of this call is evidenced by the impression that has been made on an interracial, multicultural, international audience of many who have never met him through the first volume of his Daily Bread Interactive Prayer CD, which has been purchased as far away as Japan, Germany, Africa, England, and the Bahamas. Many more have also been touched through his most recent release “Could You Not Pray With Me One Hour?” and his books “How to Flow in a Powerful Prayer Meeting”, and “Walking in a Victorious Prayer Life”.
He serves as a member of the Executive Council of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International, under the auspices of Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sr., as well as the Bishop of Intercessory Prayer, which has led to his travels throughout the United States and abroad to develop and train corporate prayer teams.
Bishop Murphy became pastor of New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Pontiac in 1990. At that time the church was a year old with 60 members. Today, he shepherd’s more than 1,200 active members in three locations in the cities of Pontiac and Detroit.
In 1995 Bishop Murphy was named Overseer for the State of Michigan for the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International. In this role he had oversight of more than 60 churches throughout the state, providing guidance and direction. In 2000, he was named Midwest Region Bishop with oversight of more than 120 churches in five states including Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Illinois. In 2005 he was elected as President of the Oakland County Ministerial Alliance Fellowship.
Bishop Murphy has been married to his lovely wife, Lady Donna Murphy for 24 years. They have five children; four of who serve in ministry with them (DeJaughn, DeVaughn, Brittany, Jasmine) and one that serves in ministry in Atlanta, Elder William H. Murphy, III.
